“Hey there, it’s Nikita, and I want to share this really amazing story that happened not too long ago. You know, sometimes life surprises you with moments that touch your heart and make you believe in the goodness of people. Well, this is one of those moments, and it all started with our Gen 2 and Y4UW group of the Focolare Movement, here in Kenya.

During one of our Green Day activities with the Y4UW, we agreed to do an activity together and settled on visiting one of the juvenile prisons in Kenya. After a few days of thorough planning, we visited Kamiti Juvenile Boys, a place where young boys are going through some really tough times. And let me tell you, that visit opened our eyes to a world we hadn’t seen before. These were not just boys; they were young souls longing for hope, dignity, and a chance at redemption. As we walked through those doors, we stepped into a world of hardships, where young hearts struggled for a chance to regain their place in society

We realized that a little bit of kindness can go a long way. So, we got together and wrote a heartfelt letter to the folks at Mariapolis Piero. We asked for help, not for us, but for these boys who needed a reason to smile. We told them about our visit and how much we wanted to make a difference in their lives.

But here’s the beautiful part: we didn’t stop there. We shared our plan with everyone we knew. We made posters, sent messages, and you know what? People were so eager to help! It was like this wave of kindness sweeping through, and it felt incredible.

We gathered all sorts of amazing gifts – blankets, mattresses, clothes, and even a TV and decoder. We wanted to bring some comfort and happiness to these boys, to remind them that they’re not alone and that people care about them.

Then came the big day – July 29th, 2023. Some of us headed back to Kamiti Juvenile Boys, and their hearts racing with excitement. And when those boys saw us with all those gifts, their faces lit up like the sun. That moment, right there, was pure joy. We shared stories, we laughed, and for a little while, we all forgot about the challenges we were facing.

Do you know what I realized? It wasn’t just about the gifts; it was about the connection we made. We showed them that we care, that they’re not forgotten. And you know what else? This journey brought us all closer. It showed us the power of coming together for a cause, of making a difference as a team.

Looking back, it’s a reminder that kindness isn’t complicated. It’s about doing what you can, about reaching out and showing someone that they matter. We don’t need big gestures; we just need to care. And together, we can brighten up someone’s day, just like we did for those boys.

So, there you have it – our journey to Kamiti Juvenile Boys in Kenya, a journey that touched our hearts, united our group and reminded us that the world can be a better place when we choose to be kind”
